I had a super duper busy schedule for the last 1 week, preparing for the Infectious Diseases Symposium. Since my boss is away the last few days, this symposium became my baby. Working till 8.30pm on a friday (wth!), meeting up with IT/AV people, rehearsals with emcee, briefing with helpers.... and needless to say, emails and emails to follow up...
A whole 1.5 months of preparations, and poof, the 2 days will pass so quickly.
The Deputy British High Commissioner hosted the Opening Dinner at her residence last night and her place is beautiful. I got to dine and interact with my co-organizers from BHC face to face finally, after the so many phone calls and emails we had. My colleague and I were a bit awkward about attending this dinner for we cannot 'talk science' with the researchers but fortunately, there were so many other topics to talk about besides science! And the bonus is, the 1st secretary of BHC is a charming, cute guy! Through my emails with him, i formed the impression that he is a big-sized, 50-ish old man but he is the total opposite!
Today was a full day of opening speeches, followed by talks on dengue, malaria, TB etc. I would say, it has been very fruitful for many of the speakers and participants. A few hiccups here and there, but many commented that we did a good job so I got to say my most sincere thanks to my team of helpers - they have been great! Finally, ended Day 1's program with a dinner at Al Dente Esplanade. Oh, the place is cool and food is wonderful!
Another half day's program to go tomorrow and I hope I can still say the event is a great success! *cross my fingers*
I got to pick the speakers up from their hotel tomorrow morning... argh... time to go to bed!
